What's Coming
A look at the Custom Articles roadmap
Our current priorities during early launch are:
Multiple Datasets per Template
We're exploring the idea of being able to associate multiple datasets with a single template. This would simplify and enhance the experience for 2+ Dimensional projects.
For example, if you had a template with an article title like How To Grow {plant} in {country}, being able to upload separate datasets for both plants and countries would allow you to import significantly more data into Byword.
This is possible currently, but is more complex to build the dataset in the required way in Google Sheets, as you can see here.
Dynamic Products
Let's say you're a fashion ecommerce brand, and you want to write an article like Top 5 Dresses for {occasion}. Custom Articles can do an okay job at this currently, but it requires a lot of work on your end. You'd have to find a way of building a CSV containing not just all the occasions you want to write about, but each row would also have to contains columns corresponding to the 5 most appropriate scarves for that occasion.
We believe we can build a simpler way of doing this though. We're working on building a Dynamic Products block, which will allow you to import a catalogue (this will likely just be a CSV at first, but we'll try to integrate with Shopify/inventory/Amazon APIs). You'll then be able to specify a number of products (5, in our example above) and Byword will insert the 5 most relevant products from your catalogue into the article.
You'll be able to mark out columns in your catalogue that have specific functions - for example you'll be able to specify if any of your columns represents a URL that we should hyperlink to.
While the above example focuses on ecommerce, the idea is actually far more general. You'll be able to pull in relevant rows of any catalogue, letting you write articles like:
Top 6 Hotels in {location}
Top 5 Plants for {lighting condition}
Top 7 {ingredient} Recipes for {dietary preference}
Where, in bold, I've highlighted the part of the title that you'd need to provide a catalogue for.
